For the return portion of my car-free trip to and from Newport Beach I set out from the Hyatt by Newport's back bay, crossed over to Balboa Island to catch the ferry to the peninsula where I pedaled the bikeway north to PCH and then rode inland along the Santa Ana Bikeway to Santa Ana where I caught the Metrolink train to Union Station and biked home to Silver Lake from there.

After four days of reckless calorie input I opted for some much needed output in the form of a 26-mile bike ride that starts and ends in Silver Lake and includes climbs to the tops of Elysian and Griffith parks.

Hot Knives Evan George and Alex Brown are two young gentlemen who know how to throw a bike ride. This second edition of what will hopefully become an annual tradition scored a record 13.2 out of 10 on the Awesometer.

Took the long way in to work on this the last commute day of the year. Silver Lake through Hollywood to West Hollywood to Beverly Hills, past Century City, up to Brentwood, to Ocean Park and the Santa Monica Pier. Then the beach bike path to Venice and across Marina Del Rey to the Ballona Creek Bikeway to Mar Vista and on to Westchester.

Took the long way in to work this morning, headed to downtown and went south to Adams before Jefferson'ing across the city. Couldn't end the year without one last flat tire, the innertube of which got snakebit going over some debris back by Cameo Plaza but didn't go flat until I crossed Overland.

As part of the July 4 pregame patriotism, fans at Dodger Stadium were treated to a flyover of the fantastic C-17 transport craft.
