This was an experiment I did about four years ago to see if injecting fuel into the augmentor of a pulsejet would increase the thrust. It didn't -- but there were some pretty flames :-)

A pulsejet-powered drag boat versus a V8-powered one. It was Junkyard Megawars and I was the technical advisor for the "red" team who constructed a ramshackle boat powered by a huge (badly built) pulsejet engine. This is old footage from 2003 showing my pulsejet powered gokart (documented at http://aardvark.co.nz/pjet) with a very tired 55lbs-thrust Lockwood valveless engine and fuel-injected afterburning augmentor -- which made no difference to the power. Note that in this run, the engine spits the sparkplug out and stops -- you can see the wispy flame coming out the plug-hole.

The very first trial at running my pulsejet. It was a bit botched with a poor ignition circuit, and no battery available, but we got some encouraging pops and bangs. I also started holding the air too close which didnt help it run. A few tweaks and I believe she'll run OK.
